Jewelry care
Jewelry care
The longevity of jewelry can vary according to a number of factors, such as skin acidity, the use of cosmetics or exposure to water. Plated jewels can tarnish depending on these factors, so they have a shorter lifespan than gold vermeil or sterling silver jewels. That's why the care you give your jewelry will influence how long it lasts. Here are a few tips to maximize their condition: remove your plated jewelry before showering, swimming, physical activity or applying beauty products. Forgot to remove your jewelry once before showering? Don't panic, just take care of it on a regular basis. Also, keep your jewelry in a dry place and in separate pouches, so you can enjoy its wonderful sparkle for a long time to come! Getting to know your skin type can also come in handy: if you have allergic reactions or your jewelry rubs off, opt for more precious metals.
What is gold or silver plating?
It's a thin layer of gold, silver or rhodium on a piece of jewelry made of a more common metal, mostly brass.
Rhodium
Plated rhodium is a durable metal against oxidation, so it's an excellent material for affordable jewelry. We suggest it for less sensitive skin.
Gold plating
We love gold plating because it's more affordable than pure gold. Jewelry made from this material is the one that needs the most care, so minimize exposure to the elements that can tarnish it. We also use gold vermeil, which consists of several layers of gold plating, for greater quality and durability.
Sterling silver
Sterling silver may oxidize over time, but it always returns to its original condition after a simple cleaning. It's recommended for sensitive skin and is hypoallergenic. Gold-plated jewelry on sterling silver is also a very fine quality! It's best to remove your silver jewelry before going into the pool, as this can accelerate oxidation, and you'll probably need to clean it afterwards. To clean your silver jewelry, use a jewelry cleaner or a mixture of baking soda and water, and scrub with a soft toothbrush. There are also jewelry cleaning cloths that work very well for cleaning.
